In fact, ETS was born from fierce competition in the early '90s Group C Prototype racing. Esso (the global brand of Exxon in the US) was involved in helping Peugeot develop their famously ferocious 905 Group C car's 3.5L V10 engine. Because of the highly advanced engines developed during the explosion of tech in '90s Group C Prototype racing, fuel was often developed in parallel with engine development to ensure maximum performance.
Because of this, Esso knew they needed to have the ability to quickly adapt and engineer new fuel formulations to optimize performance for rapidly developing engines and rules. They charged their lead Chemist, Dr. Bruno Philippon, to make sure they could remain on the cutting edge of the sport. Philipponquickly formed a small, agile "tiger team" of the best and brightest chemists in the industry, and ETS was born.
Bruno and his fledgling ETS team were successful, with the 905 winning Le Mans in 1992 and 1993!
ETS became an independent company in 1997 when Exxon and Mobilmerged and is still led by Dr. Philippon to this day. He and his team have enjoyed continued success in many racing series across the globe. From MotoGP and AMA Motocross, to World Rally and International Sports Car championships, ETS continues to push the envelope of the industry and develop the formulas for winning.
